On August 6, 2025, the B.Ed. students of Kaviyattu College of Education had the opportunity to attend a National Workshop on Emotional Intelligence hosted by Mar Theophilus Training College, Trivandrum. The event, organized by the college’s IQAC, was conducted in a hybrid mode and held from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Joju John, the Principal of Mar Theophilus Training College. In his speech, he gave a brief introduction to the concept of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and emphasized its importance in both personal and professional life. He also introduced the guest speaker of the day, Dr. Padmakshi Lokesh, a mental health expert from Bangalore, who holds degrees in BDS, MS, and MSc (Psychology).
Dr. Padmakshi delivered an engaging and insightful session focusing on themes like emotional balance, mind control, relationships, and self-awareness. Drawing from her own professional experiences with clients, she illustrated how emotional intelligence plays a vital role in managing personal issues and improving mental well-being. Her talk was both informative and relatable, as she shared real-life cases to explain psychological challenges and coping mechanisms.
Towards the end of the session, there was an interactive segment where students came forward to ask questions related to emotional intelligence and personal development, including how to overcome bad habits. Dr. Padmakshi encouraged the students by stating, “Every bad habit can be changed by making small and consistent changes in life.”
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Principal Dr. Joju John, who appreciated the active participation of all attendees, especially the students from Kaviyattu College of Education. As a memorable finale, he played a song and invited the audience to engage with it actively by mimicking the actions in the lyrics, creating a lively and joyous atmosphere.
The workshop was an enlightening experience for all the participants, shedding light on the significance of emotional intelligence in shaping one’s character, habits, and overall well-being.
